2010/2011 Audition Information
Audition Dates
Membership in MAYWE is earned through auditions which are adjudicated by the MAYWE conductors. Auditions for the 2010/2011 season will be held on August 28, 29, and 30, 2010. The application form can be downloaded in MS Word or PDF format. Please complete the form and mail to the address provided with the non-refundable application fee. Auditions are open to all students in eighth grade through age 21 as of fall semester.
Audition Requirements
Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble
Winds
- Two contrasting excerpts totaling approximately three minutes. The difficulty of the excerpts should reflect the musician’s ability.
- Three major scales of your choice played throughout the practical range of the instrument in quarter notes at a tempo of quarter note = 60 (slowly). The articulation is your choice.
- Sightreading
Please note the following:
- For flute players, piccolo is optional but very strongly encouraged. Any musician who chooses to audition on piccolo should choose one additional short excerpt for that instrument
Percussionists
- A snare drum excerpt and a mallet percussion excerpt totaling approximately three minutes. The difficulty of the excerpts should reflect the musician’s ability.
- Sightreading on either snare drum or xylophone (musician’s choice).
- Optional – A short timpani excerpt
Jazz Ensemble
Jazz auditionees will be asked to do the following:- Two contrasting excerpts totaling approximately three minutes. The difficulty of the excerpts should reflect the musician’s ability.
- Three major scales of your choice played throughout the practical range of the instrument in quarter notes at a tempo of quarter note = 60 (slowly). The articulation is your choice.
- Improvise over a 12-bar blues in a key of the musician's choice (optional but recommended)
